Hydraulic burst test for gas cylinders

The cylinder hydro burst test is designed to test the highest pressure reached during the bursting of a cylinder under internal pressure. The test usually uses water as the pressurising medium and gradually increases the pressure of the cylinder under test until it bursts. The yield pressure and burst pressure of the test cylinder are measured.

It is used for bursting strength testing of CNG cylinders, LNG cylinders, fire-fighting cylinders, seamless steel cylinders, composite cylinders, breathing cylinders, fire extinguisher cartridges and other steel or composite containers, and automatically measures the maximum deformation of the cylinder.

I. Testing requirements

1、Preparation before testing

1.1 Check the ambient temperature and the temperature of the test water, adjust and keep it above 5℃: 1.2 Measure the temperature of the test bottle (test bottle).

1.2 Determine the actual wall thickness of the tested bottle (excluding winding gas cylinders), and the test points should be no less than 12 points (the upper, middle and lower parts of the cylinder and the four directions of the circumference).

1.3 determination of the actual circumference of the upper, middle and lower parts of the barrel of the test bottle (excluding wound cylinders)

2. Rate of pressure increase

During the test, the rate of pressure increase of the test bottle within the yield pressure range shall ensure that the rate of stress increase in the bottle wall is within the range specified in Table 1.

3. Handling of special situations

3.1 During the test, when the test pressure of the test cylinder has not reached the yield pressure of the cylinder and the test cannot be continued due to equipment or system failure, the test may be repeated after the failure has been repaired.

3.2 If the pressure of the test bottle has exceeded the cylinder yield pressure, the test bottle shall not be retested, regardless of the reason for the test stopping. A separate sample should be taken and re-tested.

II. Safety precautions

1. The test cylinder under test shall be equipped with a safe and reliable isolation device.

2、After the test pressure exceeds the hydrostatic test pressure of the cylinder, no one shall approach.

3、It is strictly forbidden to disassemble pipes, measuring instruments, test bottles and other pressure-bearing parts or tighten the joints of pressure pipes under pressure.
